At the time of the death of these children, Lizzie was away visiting her family in Tazewell County, Virginia, having traveled in a covered road wagon. They were buried by the time she returned and was apprised of their deaths.
James was only 9 years, 2 months, 10 days old, and Mildred was 11 years old. Margaret was 13 years old.
