Jesse DODD was born on 12 Jul 1757 in North Carolina. He served in the military between 1776 and 1779 in Revoluntionary War Veteran. Private enlisted May or July 1776 at Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina in infantry company commanded by Captain Thomas Harris, which was a part of the North Carolina line of Continental Troops. Enlisted for 3 years, discharged by Colonel. Thomas Clark in Peranus, New York on 5/10/1779. Jesse served under Captain Thomas Harris and Colonel Thomas Polk. He fought in the Battle of Monmouth on 28 June 1778, which in history books is referred to as the most scorching summer day in American history. This battle was said to be the last important engagement in the north, in which both sides sustained great losses not only from battle , but also from heat fatigue. At noon of this day Washington took lead of the American forces. In 1778 he transferred to Captain John Summer' 1st North Carolina Regiment. In Captain Summers roll book Jesse is listed as waggoner. His brother David also served with him. Jesse enrolled under the act of 3/18/1818, for a pension for his services, at which time he was a resident of Lawrence County, Alabama. He stated that his wife had died and he moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee where he resided with his son Berry. Jesse received a pension in the amount of $96 per year.
He died on 17 Oct 1839 in Winston County, Alabama. He was buried in Baughn Cemetery, Lynn, Winston County, Alabama. Early records of Wilkes Co., Georgia show that Jesse purchased land on Nov. 19, 1789. In the 1800 tax lists he appears in Franklin County, Georgia for 410 acres on Greggs Creek. In 1802 Franklin County, Georgia he is taxed for 210 acres on the same creek and 220 on same creek in 1803. From there Jesse moved to Lincoln , Tennessee where he applied for a pension on September 23, 1818. In August of 1821 with the aide of his sons Jesse and John he moved to Marion County, Alabama. On January 1, 1822 before Judge Daniel Coleman, schedule of property was nothing in Limestone County, Alabama. In September 1823, Lawrence County, Alabama where he lived until after the death of his wife in 1836 and then he returned to Lincoln County to live with his son Joel. In 1839 Jesse moved to Walker County, Alabama.
