Emily Burnette Walker, 94, formerly of the Romeo community, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at her former home in Morristown, TN, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Walker was born Emily Rozelle Burnette on January 22, 1919 in Antioch, Tennessee. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Y. Burnette and Beulah Bowman Burnette. Mrs. Walker was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and was certified to teach in the state of Tennessee. She also had a part in "The Manhattan Project", working in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. After wartime, she became a homemaker. She was a Methodist by faith, and attended Romeo United Methodist Church until her health would no longer permit. She was an adorable, precious, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law: Debra and George Johnson of Whitesburg, Tennessee and Jackie McCulla of the Romeo community; three grandsons: (adopted son) Rev. Jonathan "Jon" McKinley Walker and wife Tammy, Jeffrey Taylor and wife Jennifer, all of Morristown, Tennessee, Shawn Smith of Mooresburg, Tennessee; four great grandchildren: William Thomas McKinley Walker of Chuckey, Tennessee, Aaron McKinley Walker of the Romeo community, and Hunter and Justin Taylor of Bean Station, Tennessee; a much loved brother and sister: Douglas Burnette and Gladys Charlton of Smyrna, Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, and cousins from Middle Tennessee; special friends: Tommy and Mary McDaniel of Little Rock, South Carolina, Tony and Vanessa Shalosky of Conway, South Carolina, and Robert and Margaret Echols of the Romeo community and the employees and staff at the Shell/Roadrunner Market in Baileyton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years: Jack M. Walker; four sisters: Sammy Lavin, Alma Burnette, Christine B. Hale, and Elizabeth Burnette; and a brother: Arthur G. Burnette.

The family will receive friends 4-6pm Friday preceding the Celebration of Life at 6pm in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Doug Jennings and Rev. Jon M. Walker will officiate.

Interment will follow at a later date at Mountain Home VA National Cemetery in Johnson City.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their love, support, help, and prayers, including all of the friends and neighbors in the Romeo community, everyone at the Romeo United Methodist church, the employees and staff of Carps Hospice at the Greensville and Sevierville offices, and Mrs. Walker's exceptionally gifted, talented, and blessed caretaker and (grand) daughter-in-law, Tammy Walker.

It was the explicit wish of Mrs. Walker to be cremated.
