Sammie Lavin, 89, of Sherman, died at 5:22 a.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010 at Villa East.

Sammie was born August 31, 1921 in Antioch, TN, the daughter of Samuel and Beulah Bowman Burnett. She married Thomas Lavin on April 9, 1945 in Springfield. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1985.

Sammie attended Brown's Business College and worked for nearly 30 years as a typist for the State Employees' Retirement System. She also worked as a nurse's aide for ten years at St. John's Hospital. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed yard work and being outside in her flower and vegetable gardens.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arthur Burnett; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Alma Burnett.

She is survived by her three sons, Thomas (wife, Maureen) Lavin of Riverton, Joseph (wife, Sue Ellen) Lavin of Port Angeles, WA and James Lavin of Springfield; a daughter, Mary Brasier of Springfield; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Christine Hale of Nashville, TN, Emily Walker of Bulls Gap, TN and Gladys Charlton of Smyrna, TN; a brother, Douglas Burnett of Nashville and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
