BAXTER SPRINGS, Kansas. James Dale Byler, age 67, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2005, at a local hospital in Joplin.
James Dale Byler was born April, 11, 1937, in Lebanon, Mo., the son of Orvil and Freida (Anderson) Byler. He had lived in the Baxter Springs area most of his life.
Jim was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Baxter Springs, the Baxter Masonic Lodge No. 71 A.F.&A.M., the Mirza Shrine in Pittsburg, Kan., a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Fort Scott Consistory and the Baxter Springs American Legion. He served with the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1959 and the National Guard for 8 years. He was in law enforcement for 32 years, retiring in January of 2005 from the Cherokee County Sheriffs Department.
James Dale Byler and Carol Marie Boyd were united in marriage on Nov. 15, 1968, in Columbus, Kan. Survivors also include his seven children, Ron Byler, Tracy Byler, Jerri Weaver and Anitta Byler, all of Baxter Springs, Mike Byler and Rick Byler, of Tulsa, Okla., and Gloria Beckett, of Paris, Ark.; three sisters, Pam Jarrett (now deceased) and Ann Walters, both of Tulsa, Sharon of Taylor, Ark.; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A brother, Wayne Byler preceded Jim in Death.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the Baxter Cemetery, Baxter Springs. Rev. John Fitzpatrick will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30.
