Marietta "Judy" Hatch was born in Montana in the United States. Her family moved to Alberta, Canada, where her father became mayor of Lethbridge. Marietta married Kayton William Frankow in 1924 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was expecting their first child when Frankow died suddenly on the street in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. She later married Arthur Samuel Newson and immigrated to Australia with her son, who was known as Eugene Victor Newson. He (Eugene Victor) never married and preceded her in death in 1965. Her second husband died in 1956.
