Jerry was raised on the family farm. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Osmond (NE.) High School. He continued his education at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA.
He entered the US Army on April 9, 1943. Jerry served in the European Theater with the 76th Army Infantry and earned his honorable discharge on November 9, 1945. Upon his return from the service, Jerry spent a short time in California before returning to Nebraska to farm with his father.
On December 31, 1955, Jerry married Gertrude "Trudy" Stephen. The couple farmed in the Osmond, NE. area before moving to the Madison, NE. area in 1965. He remained active in the family farming operation throughout his life.
Jerry was a member of St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Madison, NE. and was a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a member of American Legion Post 35 in Madison.
Jerry is survived by: children and their spouses, Kathy and John Berrick, Lincoln, NE., Steve and Tess Bichlmeier, Elgin, IL., Karen and John Botbyl, Lawrence, KS., Karol and Jim Dickson, Ames, IA., Jeffrey Bichlmeier, Madison, NE., David and Tammy Bichlmeier, Columbus, NE., Kristi and Dean Dederman, Norfolk, NE. and Kim and Greg Coffey, Lincoln, NE.; 25 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Burial was in The in The St. Leonard's Catholic Church cemetery, Madison, NE. with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 35 and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard.
