On 3 July 1861 she married A. T. Smith in Williamson Co., Texas. They had one daughter who survived her, Lucy Smith b. Apr 1868.

Martha is the daughter of Robert Pyle and Martha Malone. Her parents appear in the Florence, Williamson Co. 1860 Census along with 2 unmarried daughters, Martha and Mariah. Her sister, Mariah (Memorial #18503622), married Mark Jones on 28 Feb 1861. Her brother, William Pyle (Memorial# 6414381) moved to California and is buried in Santa Ana, Orange County.

Both parents died in Williamson Co., Texas. Robert passed away "about 25 Nov 1864," and Martha, "about 15 Feb 1865," according to their probate file.

Martha was born in Indiana and moved with her parents to Florence, Williamson Co., Texas, in time for the 1860 census.

She is the granddaughter of William Pyle and Mary Jones Pyle of Ross County, Ohio.

Martha's siblings were:
-- William (Memorial # 6414381) traveled to California with Samuel in 1852 and stayed in California when Samuel returned to Indiana.
-- Samuel (Memorial # 35304777) traveled to California with William in 1852 but returned to Vermillion Co., IN, md. Nancy Hammond on 15 Jan 1863, and stayed in Indiana. This Samuel is the grandfather of Ernie Pyle, famed WWII reporter.
-- Christopher Pyle, b. 1828, d. bef. 1840 in IN
-- Alfred or Alford Pyle, b. 3 Aug 1830
-- Frances C. Pyle Bratton, Memorial # 19607050
-- Mary Pyle, b. 17 Sep 1836, Vermillion Co., IN, married Benjamin Bentley on 26 Feb 1856 in Vermillion Co., IN. Benjamin passed away between 16 Mar 1867 and 10 Nov 1868 (according to pleadings filed in the estate matters of Robert and Martha Pyle). Mary then married J. M. Shafer on 18 May 1871. She had 3 children by each marriage: William, Emma and Ida Bentley; and Lillian, Allie and Pearl Shafer. Her death date and burial location are not known.
