When May and John were married, May had two little girls-Jessie Alcinda White born in 1884 aged 6, and Gertrude A. White born in 1886 aged 4. The family grew to include Mary "Ferol" 1891, Eva Arminta 1894, Jewett David 1898, John Edward 1900, and Edyth V. 1906. All grew to adulthood to marry and have families of their own.
John was staying with his daughter Ferol and son-in-law Harry Brawley, when John died. It had already been years since John and May's farm had been operational-when the mailbox held mail and family came calling. I remember visiting after the farm had been vacant and the wild flowers and weeds had taken over. The bucket still could be lowered into the cool waters of the well, and the tin cup was still hanging. The barn stood big and awsome, still protecting those tools who knew the feel of those strong hands of father and sons, all waiting and silent.
