Alice was educated in the public schools of Huntsville, Alabama' She moved from Huntsville, Alabama in 1940 to Nashville, Tennessee. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Alice was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church, New Market, Alabama. She joined the Corinthian Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Herman Stockard in 1945. She was a faithful member and officer of several auxiliaries including the Pastor's Aid Club and Mothers' Board. Mother Peevy, as she was passionately called, was a Spiritual Adviser to two pastors and the church at large. She was a Volunteer for many years at the Historical Carnegie Branch Library at Tenth and Monroe, and a friend to the Community.
Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother, great-great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three devoted children; Janie V. Miller, Mattie B. Nance, Willie G. Hambrick, Nashville, Tennessee; foster daughter, Christine (Grover) Smedley, Sacramento, California; brother, Reverend W. P. Petty, Huntsville, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren, Betty, Alex (Cassandra), Garvin (Fannie), Karen (Gregory, Sr.), SFC. Sergeant John (Dorothy), Melvin (Martha), Robert (Janetta), Jesse (Cheryl) Canada, Alice, James, Jennie (Earl), Vernon, Albert, Phyllis and Patsy; forty-seven great grandchildren; forty-nine great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Richetta Petty, New Market, Alabama and Emma Petty, Chicago, Illinois; devoted nephew and niece, Billy (Peggy) Petty; devoted friends, Sadie Hyde, Janie Sharpe and Hattie Holt; a host of other nieces and nephews; Corinthian Baptist Church; other relatives and friends.
