Child of Henry H Poorman & Hannah Friese. Second spouse of Catharine Poorman (cousins)
1 May 1930: Solomon Poorman who left Bellefonte three weeks ago for Pittsburgh to make his home with his son Edward, died quite unexpectedly on Monday evening , April 21st, as the result of an attack of pleuro pneumonia. When he left Bellefonte he was suffering with a bad cold and had been in Pittsburgh only a few days when he was compenned to take to his bed. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Poorman and was born in College township on April 12th, 1844. As a young man he worked for some years in the woods and later at the axe factory at Axemann. Forty or more years ago he engaged in farming, living for a while on the George Valentine farm and later on the John Eby farm, near Zion. Eventually he bought a small farm in Buffalo Run valley on which he lived a few years. About twenty years ago he moved to Bellefonte but continued the management of his farm until a few years ago. He was a member of the Lutheran church, a Democrat in politics and a good citizen in every way. He married Mrs. Catherine Garbrick, who died in October, 1925, but surviving him are two sons, Edward B. Poorman, of Pittsburgh, and Ira M. of Brooklyn. He also leaves one grandson Willis Grove of Boalsburg, and one sister, Mrs. David Ruhl, of Spring Mills. The remains were brought to Bellefonte last Thursday afternoon and taken direct to the Union cemtery for burial, Rev. C.E. Arnold, officiating. [Centre Democrat]
