Richard Wright, Jr. and [2nd] wife, Caroline Kittrell are my 2x great-grandparents. Their daughter, Mary Ann is my great-grandmother. NOTE: The 'headstone/memorial' shown is not representative of Richard Wright, Jr. burial site. Merely a representation of Rev. War Patriots. Richard Wright Jr., son of Richard Wright Sr. and wife Ann, was born in what is now considered to be Halifax County, Virginia on 4 Jun 1757. [Information is based on fact that his parents were in southwestern Virginia during that time and substantiated by a land deed found for Richard, Sr.

Richard Wright, Jr. died in Davidson Co., N. C. in 1833. He is buried in an old cemetery where we believe his father also lies [ABOUT TWO MILES FROM THE SILVER VALLY CROSSROADS - ON US HIGHWAY 64 AND ABOUT 10 MILES EAST OF LEXINGTON, NC.]

This cemetery was at one time on the Wright family farm. THERE ARE NO HEADSTONES EVIDENT HERE IN THE CEMETERY FOR ANY WRIGHT FAMILY MEMBER. There are headstones for Ruth Wright and Jesse Gallimore, but they had been removed from where the cemetery is. The area where the cemetery is supposed to be is now on private land and is part of a cow pasture.

Richard Wright Jr. was a private in Rowan Co., NC and fought at the Battle of Guilford County Court House, in the War for Independence. General Nathaniel Green was the commander of the American forces. According to Ruth, his daughter, Richard was a Primitive Baptist minister. Many ministers and Justices of the Peace are found in his numerous descendants. Richard signed his will [and other legal documents] with a slightly backward slanted 'R' that is considered his 'mark'. This appears to be a family trait, possibly indicating that he may have been left-handed. Through other legal documents bearing his signatures, it's been well established that he could read and write.

Richard was first married in 1780 to Nancy Morgan, b. 1750. No record of her death has been fully established; however, it's believed that she died abt 1798 - shortly after the birth of the last daughter, Susannah. Nancy Morgan Wright was a sister to Martha and Barbara Morgan [they married Wright brothers] whose parents were James and Mary Morgan.

WILL OF RICHARD WRIGHT JR. In the name of God Amen-I Richard Wright of the co. of Davison and state of North Carolina, being of sound mind though weak, do ordain and make this my last will and testament, that is to say I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Cary, after all my just debts are paid, all of my property to be hers during her life or widowhood, and if she marries then to be equally between her and lawfully begotten children by her namely: NELSON, SILAS, BURGESS, MARY, MICAJAH, and MILES. I also bequeath to my lawfully begotten children by my first beloved wife, namely, SARAH, AMOS, JANE, SUSANNAH, DELILA, REUBEN, ISAIAH, ELIJAH, NANCY, ISOM, and GILLY, one dollar each. I do will and bequeath to NELSON and SILAS, the two young colts that the mare now has sucking. I do constitute and appoint my worthy friend Spencer Clark executor to this my last will and testament in witness whereof hereunto set my hand & seal in the presence of us May 12th A. D. 1833. Richard Wright was again married shortly after the 1800 census to Caroline [Kittrell] referred to as 'Cary' in the 1840 census where she is now a widow and head of the family]. Richard's will also names her as Cary.

Note: Further research done regarding Richard Wright, Jr:
Ruth Wright [Gallimore] indicated in a newspaper article of abt 1900 that her father had married twice; each wife had 6 sons and 6 daughters, including a set of twins = 24 children total. Eleven [11] children from the first marriage have been fully identified. Assuming Ruth's story is accurate, the one missing child would have been a son who likely died very young; therefore, I've made an 'assumption of birth' based solely on the number of years between the births of the other children.

Of his marriage to Caroline Kittrell, ten [10] children have been fully identified. Again, assuming that the story of 12 children is accurate - which we have no reason to believe otherwise - the two children missing would have been daughters. whose names remain unknown. They did not live long enough to cross from one census to the other; therefore, I've made an 'assumption of birth' based solely on the number of years of the births of the other children.......sg
