She was the former Janet Bell born Nov. 22, 1933 in Fond du Lac, daughter of the late Dr. Kenneth and Virginia Alger Bell. Janet graduated from Fond du Lac Goodrich High School and continued her education at Ripon College for two years.
For one year she was a teachers aide in the kindergarten at Elizabeth Waters Grade School, Fond du Lac. She later received her B.A. Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Janet taught kindergarten at Jefferson School in Manitowoc for six years and two years at Howards Grove. She taught summer school for several years in the Kiel School District. On Aug. 22, 1965, she married Warren Heckmann at First Reformed Church, Manitowoc. She was a member of St. James UCC, Spring Valley, the Ladies Aid and the Manitowoc Organ Club. She enjoyed playing the piano, organ, and following the Packers, Brewers and Cubs.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Warren D., two sons, Timothy (Michelle) Heckmann, Hudson, and Steven Heckmann, Spring Valley and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily. She is further survived by brother and sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Glenn) Coleman, Vermilion, Ohio, Elizabeth (David) LaDuke, Rothbury, Mich., Edward Heckmann, Spring Valley, Lloyd Hoeffner, Appleton and two nephews, John and Tom Hoeffner. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margery Hoeffner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005 at St. James UCC, Spring Valley with the Rev. William Kesting officiating. Burial will take place
in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial has been established in her name. Janet's family would like to thank the staff at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and Dialysis Center for their excellent care and the staff and nurses at Morningside Health Center, Sheboygan, for their concern and care shown to her. Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel is assisting the family.
