Jeanette, daugher of Gerrit and Gertrude (Dykstra) Riemersma, was born on March 6, 1902, in rural Hospers. She lived her youth and attended school in rural Ocheyedan.
She was united in marriage to Harry Sikma of chicago, IL, in March of 1921, in Worthington, MN. They lived south of Ocheyedan for 19 years. In 1939, they moved east of Ocheyedan where they farmed until they retired. They operated a convalescent home in Ocheyedan for 12 years. Harry passed away in 1987. In 1989, Jeanettee moved to Pella, and in 1995, she moved back to Ocheyedan to live with her daughter and son-in-law Cubby and Mike Harberts.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Ocheyedan, where she attended for over 90 years.
Jeanette enjoyed her family and firends. She especially liked singing hymns with her family. She also enjoyed ceramics and shopping.
She passed away on Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Country View Manor in Sibley, at the age of 102 years, 2 months and 22 days.
Those left to cherish her memories are seven sons and daughters-in-law; John and Dorothy Sikma of Bigelow, MN, Jim Sikma of Hull, Harold and Marge Sikma of Pella, William and Evelyn Sikma of Byron Center, MI, Roger and Harriett Sikma of Grand Haven, MI, Robert and Cheryl Sikma of Jefferson, SD, Rick and Ruth Sikma of North Pole, AK, and son-in-law, Mike Harberts of Ocheyedan, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, daughter, Cubby Harberts, daughter-in-law, Betty Sikma, granddaughter Bernis, grandson, Mike, her parents, four brothers and four sisters.
