ORVILLE E MEIER

Orville Edwin Meier, age 83, of Chilton, died on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.

He was born on February 7, 1925, son of the late Richard & Mary (Steiner) Meier.

He married Louisa Helen Knaus on November 16, 1948 and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

Orville worked at numerous jobs including farming, Hillside Cheese Factory, and finally Foley Company until his retirement. His favorite job was gardening and he had an acre of land in Charlesburg where he grew cucumbers, popcorn, and other vegetables. He enjoyed playing bean bags, playing cards, especially Sheepshead and Skat, watching the Brewers and Cubs, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Orville always had a piece of hard candy to share.

He is survived by his wife: Louisa Helen and was blessed with 9 children: Gerald (Jan) Meier of Janesville, Jean (Tom) Tinnell of Austin, TX, June Geiser of Chilton, Janice (Gale) Lemke of Hilbert, Raymond ""Buzz"" (Sandy) Meier of Chilton, Rosemary (Butch) Bauer of Houston, TX, Mary Janssen of Placerville, CA, Betty (Steve) Buechel of New Holstein, and Bonnie (Grant) Mortimer of Chilton. He is further survived by 28 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother: Gilbert Meier, sisters: Rose Wettstein, Hildegarde (Leonard) Heimerman, Janet (Nick) Meyer-Steinmetz; brother-in-law: Claude (Doris) Knaus and sisters-in-law: Terry Meier, Diane Meier, Sister Rosetta Knaus, Margie Knaus, and Bernita Meier.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents, father & mother-in-law: Raymond & Catherine Knaus; sons-in-law: Tom Geiser & David Janssen; brothers: Severin (Marie) Meier, Clarence Meier, Zeno (Norma) Meier, Alvin Meier, Patrick Meier; sisters: Irene (Tony) Hoerth, Isabell (Hugo) Stemper, brothers-in-law: Clarence (Elaine) Knaus, Joe Wettstein, Harvey Meyer & Elroy Knaus; and sisters-in-law: Theresa (Art) Kiefenthiem, Sister Cecelia Knaus and Marion Meier.

Funeral service will be at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Bob Kollath officiating. Entombment will be in the Knollwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the church from 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2008.
