Son of Ezra Hickok
Samuel Hickock moved from New York to Burlington, Vermont about 1792. He worked as a clerk in a small store opened by his brother, William. After William died in 1797, Samuel took over the business. He soon opened a second store, and in 1805 built a third store opposite what is now City Hall Park. This building is believed to be the first brick building in the city.
Samuel was one of the original directors of the Vermont Transportation Company.
On May 10, 1800, Samuel married Hannah Collard. They had six children, including William Collard (September 14 1802 - June 12 1883) and John Edgar (May 31 1806 - November 16 1880)
After Hannah died, Samuel married his cousin, Eliza Whelpley on January 20, 1811. They also had six children.
