REUBEN J. LECLAIR

Reuben J. LeClair, age 85, of 2403 Pine Tree Drive, Two Rivers, died on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at his residence.

Reuben was born on Sept. 7, 1923, son of the late Edward and Rose (Colling) LeClair. He attended Washington High School, Two Rivers, graduating with the class of 1941.

He joined the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the European Theatre. On Oct. 23, 1948, he married the former Violet L. Gilbert at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He worked as a commercial fisherman for many years. He then was employed at Hamilton Manufacturing Company until his retirement.

Reuben played three years of football for Washington High School, Two Rivers, but it was on the basketball court that he excelled. From the high school ranks to the semi-pro leagues, he was considered one of the finest basketball players the lakeshore area has ever produced. Reuben played four years of basketball and was a member of the 1941 Raiders state championship team and voted to the all-tournament basketball team. He capped his high school career by being named all-state forward as a senior. Reuben also played in the semi-pro league for the Manitowoc Rockets. He was inducted into the Kenny's Softball Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Lakeshore All Sports Hall of Fame in 1989. Reuben also coached several Two Rivers baseball teams.

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter: Sharon; four brothers: Elmer LeClair, Hilary LeClair, Danny LeClair and Eddie LeClair; one sister: Irene Lachowicz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ethel LeClair; Daniel Paulow; Elmer Miller; Beatrice and Ed Powalisz; and Catherine Gilbert; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ralph and Lorraine Gilbert.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O'Brien. Entombment will be at Knollwood Mausoleum, Highway 310, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church from 9 until 10:15 a.m. The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
