MOUNT CARMEL-Laura Alice Short Amyx died Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Indian Path Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born in Hancock County, she lived in Hawkins County most of her life. She was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John M. Short and Cornie Spradling Short; sisters, Martha Short and Mary Lawson and a brother, Frank Short.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Claborn Amyx; daughter, Sharon A. Carr and husband, Roger, Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Teresa Conkin and husband Robby, Fall Branch and Rebecca Monroe and husband, Andy, Mount Carmel and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted in the Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel, Church Hill on Saturday, February 14, 2004 with her pastor, Dr. Phil Hoskins and Dr. Shannon Salyer officiating.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday, February 15, 2004 at Church Hill Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were family and friends. Memorials may be made to Church Hill Rescue Squad, PO Box 206, Church Hill, TN 37642. Condolences may be made to the family via e-mail at ([email protected])
