Kathy A. Miles, formerly of Chester Springs, Pa

Kathy A. Miles, 53, of Reedville, Va., formerly of Chester Springs, , died August 29, 2012.

She wrote a popular science column for the Daily Local News. She enjoyed helping people and teaching others.

She was a member of the board of directors of Chester County Interlink providing free Internet access to the citizens of Chester County.

She also cowrote the Prentise Hall book Everyday Linux.

An astronomy major at West Chester University (Pennsylvania), she directed the planetarium shows there for many years. She gave many public lectures and had written a regular newspaper column.

She was co-founder and principal author of an Earth and Space Science website for the past 16 years. The website won an award for educational excellence from the Grifth Observatory in Los Angeles.

She was an avid follower of the Space program and a JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) Solar System Ambassador. This summer she helped organize the event Space Habitat at Lancaster County Middle School.

She battled multiple health problems and was legally blind but enhanced our vision and understanding of worlds well beyond our own. She will be missed.
