Letter of November 10, 1951 Department of the Army, Office of the Adjutant General, Washington, DC.
"On 19 November 1950 in the vicinity of Sunchon, North Korea, Edward was a machine gunner with a patrol in enemy held territory when his patrol was ambushed by a strong enemy force. The patrol was forced to withdraw. Edward was last seen manning his machine gun covering the withdrawal of his buddies. No further trace of him has been found since."

(Family Information: what the above and other records do not tell is "Buddy" had a leg injury. As his company was retreating, he stay back, manning his machine gun, saving many lifes. When the Army retook the hill the next day there was not a trace of him nor his body. One other young soldier, from the same unit, was separated showing up the next day. "Buddy" didn't. This information came in a letter to Cpl Gude's mother from a soldier that was there that day.)
