Carlene D. Adams, 86, of Viola, Illinois died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Genesis Senior Living – Aledo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 16th at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Viola. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Viola. Visitation is Friday, March 15th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola with Liturgy of the Word recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be left for the Viola Public Library.
Carlene was born April 17, 1926 in Quincy, Illinois a daughter of Frank and Catherine Waterman Schalk. She attended schools in Quincy and Sherrard, graduating from Sherrard High School in 1944.
She married Jimmie L. Adams on November 13, 1948 at St. Catherine's Church in Aledo. He died January 16, 1981.
Carlene was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and a trustee of St. John's Cemetery, Viola. Mrs. Adams was a past president and a board member for several years at the Viola Public Library. In 1987, she was one of nine Directors on Viola Development Board, serving as secretary. She was a long time "Reading Buddies" volunteer at Viola Grade School. Her thought was, when you live in a community you should work to do things to improve the community.
Survivors include 4 sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmie and Nancy Adams, Polo, IL, Roger and Linda Adams, Davenport, IA, Charles and Carrie Jo Adams, Viola, IL and Allan and Cyndi Adams, New Windsor, IL; 9 grandchildren: Abigail and Tony Magnafici, Carol Stream, IL, Kate Lyn Adams, Davenport, IA, Eric and Courtney Adams, New Windsor, IL, Brian, Kelly and Carly Adams all of Viola, IL, Amy and Travis Boswell, Aledo, IL, Tiffany and Stephanie Adams, both of New Windsor, IL; 3 great grandchildren; and brothers: Robert and Fern Schalk, Taylor Ridge, IL and Frank Schalk of Milan, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Arthur and Joseph and a sister Mildred.
