William Harvey was born c.1800 in Aberdeenshire and came to Canada in 1836 from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, after having served as a British soldier guarding the Emperor Napoleon in his exile at St. Helena.
William, his wife Charlotte Ruxton and their daughter Elizabeth, initially settled at Winterbourne, Woolwich township, Waterloo County, Ontario.
He initially shared, as tenants, a 100 acre lot with his brother-in-law William Ruxton.
About 1843 he acquired land in Peel township, Wellington County. His farm was part of lot 21, concession 13, just outside of the town of Alma, Ontario.
In 1852 he was living at Peel township. Wellington County, Ontario, age 48, farmer, with his wife Charlotte 38, and their children Eliza 16, David 14, Charlotte 11, Grace 9, Catherine 7, Barbara 5 and Agnes 3.
He obtained a patent for part of lot 21, concession 13 in Peel township from the crown in 1857.
On 28 Sep 1859 he, William Harvey, Yeoman, deeded 56 acres in Peel township, Wellington County to his son David, in return for David agreeing to pay his father (or his widow) annually $35, 5 barrels of flour, 25 bushels of potatoes, 300 lbs of Pork, build and furnish a 16x22 log cabin and discharge all debts and obligations.
William Harvey and his family then moved to a house in the town of Alma.
On 17 April 1860 David signed a quit claim returning title to the property to his father for the consideration of $1. He was resident in the U.S. at the time (possibly Chicago, Illinois).
On 5 Dec 1860 William sold the 56 acres to James Isaac, blacksmith, of the village of Alma.
