SPENCER Phyllis Spencer Altieri 80, widow of Claude Altieri of Sacketts Harbor, N.Y., formerly of South Waverly, Pa., died peacefully Friday, May 14, 2010 in Sacketts Harbor, N.Y. Phyllis was born June 24, 1929 in Allentown, Pa., the daughter of the late Daniel and Pearl Baker Spencer.

She was a graduate of the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing in Sayre. On November 24, 1954, Phyllis married Claude Altieri at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Towanda, Pa. Phyllis was employed as a registered nurse at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of the former St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in South Waverly and the Altar & Rosary Society there.

Surviving are her children, Thomas D. Altieri and his wife Michele of New Kensington, Pa., David Altieri and Ron Burris of Sacketts Harbor, N.Y., Diane Black of Harwood, Md.; grandchildren, Gina Leskovic and her husband Luke, Thomas J. Altieri and his wife Autumn, Sara Bianco and her husband Ryan, Michael Altieri and his wife Mandy, Dominic Altieri, Gabriel Altieri, Jon Ryan Burris, Kelli Giles, Christopher Giles; great-grandson, Niko Jeremy Leskovic; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clement and Anna Altieri of South Waverly; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Claude on March 23, 1997 and by her brother, Gerald Spencer in 1956.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home 314 Desmond St. Sayre, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at the EpiphanyParish, South Elmer Ave. Sayre, Pa., with the Rev. Vincent Langan as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa. –Sayre Morning Times, May 15, 2010
