W.A. "Buck" Alexander, 87, of Stillhouse Road, Newman, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County, was the owner and operator of Alexander Brothers Excavating Contractors and of Newman Store. He was a Baptist and enjoyed playing pool and hunting. His wife, Elizabeth Mae "Bessie" Alexander, died Nov. 1, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Donnie Alexander of Newman and Larry Alexander of Henderson; a daughter, Judy Greenwell of Owensboro; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Woodie Alexander of Atlanta.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Haley-McGinnis&Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery in Reed. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Augustine Building Fund or to a favorite charity.
