The son of John Turk (1824-1899) and Mary Ann Marshall (1827-1915), he was born in Black Fox Furnace, Clarion County PA. He married Nancy Anna (Annie) Allison (1862-1936) and was the father of seven children. He was named for his Uncle Henry M. Marshall, who died a prisoner of war at Andersonville Georgia, in 1864. Henry Turk servied for many decades as an elder in Parker's Presbyterian Church.
