Genevieve Long De Money, 94, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed from this earth to her new home in heaven on Mar. 14, 2010. She will be remembered for her devotion to prayer, her diligence in work, and her love for her family and friends. As her husband would say "she was a remarkable woman." She was born in Marshall, Texas, the fourth of nine children, to Thomas and Ella Long on February 1, 1916. She received her education in the Marshall Public Schools. After she graduated in 1924, she became secretary to the Second Baptist Church where she had accepted Christ at the age of 13. She married John DeMoney in 1947. After the birth of their daughter, Genevieve decided to be a "stay at home mom," devoting her life to her only child. Always active in the church, she sang in the choir, took part in WMU, and taught Sunday School for preschoolers for twenty years. Her favorite hobby was gardening and she spent many hours working with her flowers and landscaping the lawn around her home. Her husband was employed at East Texas Baptist University where she took part in the College Women's Club and other activities. In 1978, she and her husband moved to Austin to be with her daughter and family. She became active at Hyde Park Baptist Church in the choir, Sunday School, and the food pantry. Having a heart for others, and believing strongly in the power of prayer, she diligently made phone calls and spent many hours praying as a member of the church prayer team. Mrs. DeMoney was preceded in death by all of her immediate family except one brother, Huey Long who lives in Houston. She is survived by her husband John DeMoney of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her daughter D'Ann and husband Elliott Beck, and her two grandchildren, Brandon and Susan Beck. Also surviving are Bobby DeMoney and a number of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. The family will be forever grateful to the staff at Austin North Assisted Living and to Odyssey Healthcare Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Odyssey Healthcare, 4201 W. Parmer Lane Suite 100, Austin, Texas 78727. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 N. Lamar in Austin, Texas. On Thursday March 18, at 10:30 a.m., a private graveside service will be conducted by Mr. Alan Nagel at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
