From the News-Courant dated Feb. 27, 1908; page 1 column 4:

Thomas Jefferson Browning died at his home south of Cottonwood Falls February 24, 1908. He was born in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, Oct. 12, 1825. He attained into the great age of 82 years, 4 months and 13 days. When a very small boy he moved with his parents to the state of Maryland and thence to Tascarawas county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Elizabeth Jewell, July 8, 1858. He served as a soldier in the civil war, first in Company G, 126 Regiment, Ohio Infantry and then in Company J, 5 Regiment Ohio Veteran reserve Corps. In 1879 he moved with his family to Chase county Kansas. He was the father of eight children, six of who, together with their aged mother, are still living. Mr Geo Browning of Lyndon, Missouri, Mrs Hattie Yenzer of Saffordville, Mrs Cora Archer and Willis, John and James Browning of this county. When quite young Mr Browning became a Christian and a member of the United Brethren Church. Therein for many years he was a class leader and earnest worker. He was a patriotic and brave soldier, a good citizen and fine Christian. The funeral services were held in Patton School house near his late residence. The services were largely attended and were conducted by Rev Russell A McKinley PH D., DD of the Presbyterian Church of Cottonwood Falls. Inturnment [sic] was had in the cemetery at Bazaar.
