Company F "Scotch Boys" of Richmond County, 18th North Carolina Infantry, Lane's Brigade, A.P. Hill's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence: Richmond County, N.C.; 27 y.o. farmer; 5'10", black hair, dark eyes, swarthy complexion.
Enlisted for 10 months' service on 7/23/1861 at Camp Wyatt, he was mustered into Company F, 8th North Carolina Infantry, as a Private. (This regiment was subsequently redesignated as the 18th North Carolina Infantry.)
POW 5/27/1862 Hanover Court House, VA.; confined 6/4/1862 Fort Columbus, NY.; transferred 7/12/1862 to Aiken's Landing, VA.; exchanged there on 8/5/1862.
Listed as Absent WithOut Leave on 4/30 - 10/31/1862 Roll; exchanged prisoner not yet returned.
Present on Roll dated 12/31/1862.
Killed In Action in the Battle of The Wilderness.

The 18th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 8th Volunteers, was organized at Camp Wyatt, near Carolina Beach, North Carolina, in July, 1861. Its members were from Wilmington and the counties of Robeson, New Hanover, Bladen, Columbus, and Richmond.
