Sgt Robert Pooler served his country in World War II until he was killed in a vehicle accident on 8 April 1942 in the Panama Canal Zone. He was the first soldier from Blackford County to lose his life in WWII. His body was returned to Blackford County for burial on 7 May 1948 with funeral services in the First Christian Church and an American Legion graveside service. The American Legion Post was known as the Moyer Post for the first soldier to fall from Blackford County in WWI and the name was changed to the Moyer-Pooler Post in honor of Sgt. Pooler. He was the son of Mrs. Harry Helm.
