Mrs. Sarah Johnston Dies At Belmont Home
Belmont - Jan. 27 - Mrs. Sarah Clemmer Johnston, one of the oldest and best know women in this section, died Thursday afternoon at her home near Belmont. She was born near Dallas on May 9, 1837, and was therefore in her 85th year. Her first husband was Moses Lineberger, and after his death she married Samuel Johnston, who died five years ago.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by three sons, C.H. Lineberger, H.C. Johnston, and R.R. Johnston of Belmont, a larger number of grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She raised three of her grandchildren, Mrs. J.B. Hall of Statesville, Mrs. D.H. McCullough of Charlotte, and C.W. Fite of Belmont. Three sisters also survive, Mrs. Cynthia Rhyne of Atlanta; Mrs. Betty Costner and Mrs. Lee Stowe of Dallas.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Belmont Presbyterian church, Rev. J.F. Denby, pastor of the church, having charge of the service. The interment was in the old Graham graveyard.
