Jean Lindsay Hancock
(July 27, 1922 ~ March 6, 2013)

Our sweet, tough and determined mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Jean Lindsay Hancock, passed away March, 6, 2013 encircled by her family.

Jean was born July 27, 1922 in an upstairs apartment on Main Street in Payson, Utah to Samuel Roland and Alta Knowlton Lindsay. She graduated from Payson High School and LDS Business College.

She married the love of her life Harry J Hancock on the 4th of July 1942 in Yakima, Washington. He was "the best looking guy in town." Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She started her employment at Commercial Bank and continued to work at First Security Bank in Payson, Spanish Fork, and Provo as an Executive Secretary. She worked 46 years never taking a sick day. She was also a volunteer "Pink Lady" at Mountain View Hospital for the last 26 years making many friends along the way.

Jean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in various callings including Primary, Relief Society, and Temple Worker. She was on the board for People Preserving Peteetneet, and was also the secretary to the Current Creek Irrigation Co.

Jean lived in the kitchen and many people have loved her pies, birthday cakes, homemade ice cream, and huge Sunday Dinners. We have met at Grandma Jean's home every Sunday for over 50 years as a family. You couldn't leave her house without a piece of pie, or cake.

Jean loved her garden, and her riding lawnmower. She has backpacked in Idaho and Wyoming. The ultimate was climbing the Grand Teton in 1975. She has also climbed Timpanogos 17 times, climbed Mt. Borah in Idaho, hiked down Zion's Narrows many times, and has been a part of many other adventures with her grandchildren. She has floated the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, the Colorado and the Snake Rivers, and hiked the Grand Canyon. In life she never has let an obstacle get in her way.

Jean's love was her family.

She is survived by her children: H. Kim (Leonda) Hancock; Steve (Karen) Hancock; Suzy Tidwell; and Stacy Murdock. She is also survived by: 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and another on the way. She is also survived by her sisters: Afton L. Frisby, and Myrl L. Anderson.

She is preceded in death by her husband Harry, and a sister Barbara Roper.

Interment will be in the Payson City Cemetery.
