Silas was the son of Rev. William Monroe Calfee and Mary Hopkins Strong. He married Alice Everetta Thompson. Silas was a farmer and a city marshall in Mount Ayr, Iowa in 1900.

Silas Wright Calfee, aged 71 years, died at Columbus Hospital Thursday, Dec. 3, following a three weeks illness. Mr. Calfee only recently returned here from Havre, where he has been engaged in truck gardening for the last five years, to visit his daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Bradstreet and Mrs. Claudia Lawrence of 217 Third Avenue North. From 1914 to 1921, Mr. Calfee made his home in Great Falls being, at that time, employed on the Great Northern Railroad. Besides the widow, he is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Claudia Lawrence and Mrs. Kathryn Bradstreet, Great Falls; Miss Irma B. Calfee of San Jose, Calif.; Howard F. Calfee of Dexter, Iowa; and John W. Calfee of Frazer. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother: Mrs. William Haines of Prescott, Ariz.; Mrs. Mercy Wiswell of York, Neb.; Mrs. Frank Huss of Rapid City, S.D.; Mrs. Lawrence Test of Mitchell, S.D.; and the Rev. Willis McClure Calfee of Adena, Ohio; and by ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the O'Connor undertaking parlors with the Rev. H.B. Ricketts, associate pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating.
