DAVENPORT - Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Ray A. Benson, will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be offered at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until Mass time at St. Paul the Apostle on Friday.
Ray died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport. He was born July 4, 1916, in Albia, Iowa, the son of Charles and Martha Ann (Reiner) Benson. Ray was a World War 11 veteran. He served as Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Coast Guard. He married Mary M. "Donna" Scieszinski on Sept. 21, 1940, in Davenport. Ray retired in 1978 as a Millwright in the Maintenance Department at the Rock Island Arsenal. Ray was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for 55 years. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very dear to him. They held a special place in his heart and were the apple of his eye. Memorials may be made to Assumption High School or St. Paul the Apostle Church or school Survivors include his wife, Donna; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Roger Greim, Davenport; grandchildren, Steven Greim (Misty), Jeffrey Greim (Kim), Mark Greim (Chrissy), Jennifer Like(Christopher), and Chad Greim (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Bryan, Nathan, Hope, Tommy, Sydney and Adam; and a twin brother, Jay Benson, Milan, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers.
