The Daily Northwestern, Oshkosh Sat 10 Dec 1898 Pg 2:
A terrible shock came to the family of Mrs. Barbara Zentner, wife of Fred Zentner, 128 High street, this morning, when it was discovered that she had passed away during the night, peacefully and painlessly without a murmur or a struggle. The cord of life had been cut almost instantly, and her soul had gone to its heavenly home.
Mr. Fred Zentner, husband of the deceased, awoke this morning at 5:30 o'clock to call the servant and on his return to the sleeping apartments, he noticed that his wife lay as sleeping, but appeared to be very white, as if ill. He tried to wake her, and called to her, but she seemed to be unconscious and was cold. Becoming alarmed, Mr. Zentner aroused his son, Henry Zentner, and Dr. Clark was summoned immediately. The physician pronounced her dead and it was apparent that the spark of life had been extinguished several hours previously. Mrs. Zentner's demise was probably due to heart disease. She has been subject to heart trouble for the past several years, but was exceptionally well on the day previous to her death.
Mrs. Barbara Zentner was born in Prussia, Germany, and was sixty-two years old the third of last August. She was a pioneer resident of this city, having resided here ever since she was fourteen years of age. In 1852, August 15, she was married to Fred Zentner, an old and highly respected citizen of this city.
Deceased had a large circle of friends, and her sudden death will cause a sad shock to them. Those who survive, besides a husband, are a daughter, Mrs. A. J. (Barbara D.) Schloerb of Ripon, Wis., and two sons, Frederick T. Zentner of Antigo, cashier of the Antigo National Bank, and Henry J. Zentner of this city, who, with his family, resides with his parents.
Deceased is also survived by a sister in this city, Mrs. M.
A. Faber. Funeral arrangements are as yet undecided.
