A celebration of life service for James Vernon Hogg, age 84, of Early, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Early First Baptist Church with Lowell Skaggs and Eddie Ailshie officiating.

Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Eastlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00. Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hogg passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 in Brownwood.

Vernon was born on Oct 18, 1928 in Lamesa to Frank and Zora Hogg, the oldest of six children. He married Reba Lee Bettis on December 22, 1949 in

Lamesa. After living in West Texas for several years, they moved to Brownwood and together they operated Central Texas Livestock Auction and the Brownwood Cattle Auction.

Vernon always gave God all the credit for any success that he had in his life. He loved God, his family and his country. Vernon was a member of the Early First Baptist Church for many years and also served as a deacon.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a good friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Vernon is survived by his wife Reba; daughter, Connie Pelzel and husband, Curtis, of Miles; son, Dwayne Hogg and wife, Jill, of Stephenville; grandson, Cooper Hogg and wife, Melissa, of San Angelo; grandson Roy Vernon and wife, Tate, of Stephenville; granddaughter Kallie Jo Newman of Stephenville; granddaughter, Nicole Pelzel of Miles; two sisters, Geraldine Tarbet and husband, Joe, Barbara Stone and husband, Harold, all of Lubbock; two brothers, Kenneth Hogg and wife, Lanette, of Lamesa and Nelson Hogg and wife, Cheryl, of Lubbock; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Martin of Casa Grande, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Douglas Hogg; and a granddaughter, Michaela Pelzel.
