She died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Atrium Medical Center in Stafford, Texas. Hazel was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Hazel was an educator for 36 years in the Brazoria County Area. She retired as principal from Brazoria Intermediate School. She was involved in various civic organizations. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Ellis Higgins, Sr. and Minnie Mack Higgins; husband, Thomas J. Austin and sister, Minerva Swindle.
