As a young man, Thomas joined the Royal Scots, a military regiment, and served 21 years. He saw a lot of foreign service in his military career. Towards the end of his career he played in the Royal Scots band.
After leaving the service of his country, Thomas was a brewer. He and his wife worked in "The Ship" Quayside, Ely, a brewery that was in use from 1661 until 1956. He worked as a trusted foreman for Messrs. Cutlack and Harlock near 30 years. Today, the building no longer exists.
All of their children were born in Ely. Elizabeth Hood lived with them until she returned to America with her grandmother, Thomas's mother, Martha (Scarrow) Cheville.

Gravesite Details
There are many graves at St. Mary's. They are very close to each other, with only 2-3" separating them and nearly all headstones are unreadable. The church does not have records of those buried there.
