Hayes "Gilmer" Addison
MIDDLEBROOK, MD. - Hayes "Gilmer" Addison, 66, of Middlebrook, formerly of Buchanan County, Va. and Maryland, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 at his home following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County,Virginia he was the son of the late Charles G. and Charlotte Keen Addison.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired inspector for the State of Maryland Environmental Services Department. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, and carpentry; and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents, two brothers, Claude and Glenn Addison; and one sister, Ann Addison Jackson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mrs. Katherine Sue Wade Addison; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bryan Sloper of Jefferson, Md.; two sons, Gregory Addison of Odenton, Md. and Eric Addison of Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren, Kelsey Sloper, Joshua Addison, Bryan Sloper Jr., Isaiah Addison, and Georgia Sloper;
four sisters, Gussie Johnson of Marvin, va., Grace Ratliff and husband, Wyatt of Oakwood, Va., Lucille Relyea and husband, Russell of Boise, Idaho, and Geneva Ratliff and husband, Bill of Oakwood Virginia, one brother-in-law, Corbit Jackson of Marvin, Virginia,
and one sister-in-law, Thelma Addison of Marvin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Buchanan Funeral Service
Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va. with the Revs. Ancil Childress and Paul MCNally officiating. Burial will follow in the Mutter-Addison Cemetery at Marvin, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be family. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Harmon, Earl Addison, Robert Mangum and brothers-in-law.
The Casey-Shortt V.F.W. post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V. will conduct military graveside rites.
