His mother was Mary Pinkney, John A. Shuman's 1st wife

A. P. Shuman enlisted as a Private in Sutton's Cavalry Company, Confederate States Army as found in Texas Confederate Soldiers 1861 - 1865,

Anson inherited his carpentry skills from a long line of master carpenters.

His granddaughter,Tollye Shuman, always told about a very special unique staircase her grandfather built, I think I finally found where it was.

Anson built a winding staircase in the old 1895 Lamar Co courthouse . It had winding steps at each corner. One of the reason's they took it apart after the fire of 1916 was to rebuild a structure with more light flowing into it. The four corners apparently made the 1895 building rather dark. The courtroom was on the north side, also, which made air conditioning and warming tough! Omus Shuman had wrote in a letter "that Grandpa Shuman was the only carpenter that knew how to build the first winding stairway in the old courthouse in Clarksville,Texas", but in checking with the Red River Co historians and people in Lamar Co, they believe it was the one in Lamar Co

He and Eliza had a pet bear at one time raised from a cub, so tame they had it in the house. He liked to get upon the dresser and look at himself in mirror. Then one day they had company over and the bear chased them, so from then the bear had to be chained
