John T. Neis, age 86, of Marengo, IL died [Monday, March 4, 2013] at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Il.
He was born in Amboy, IL to Adelbert and Bertilla (Dyer) Neis on October 4, 1926. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and Korea and a member of the Marengo VFW Post #689910. He was the proprietor of the Rexall Drug Store in Ohio, Il and insurance executive for Bank Insurance dealing in Credit Life Insurance for banks. He helped establish Neis Insurance Company in Crystal Lake, IL.
He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Mary (Richard) Phannenstill and his son Thomas (Marilyn) Neis; three grandchildren Elizabeth Neis, Melissa (Chris) Wittenborn and R.J. Phannenstill; four nieces Annie Smith, Barb Wuchiski, Cindy Barich and Debbie Herber; and long time companion Pat Hawkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Molly and his sister Betty Barish Newses.
