Emma Eekhoff was the daughter of Edward and Jennie Abbas. She was born in Oustfriesland, Germany. Five years later the family came to America, settling in Hardin County, Iowa. Emma was baptized in the Christian Reformed faith. In 1883 they moved to New Holland, S.D., where they lived until 1891, when they came to a farm southwest of Kanawha. Emma married Jake Eekhoff and the couple resided on a farm wet of Kanawha until 1933 when they retired to a home in Kanawha. To this union six children were born; George, Edward, John, Ella, and Jennie. Ella's Twin sister (Jennie) passed in 1911.
