Mary Jane Morris Randle, 89, a life-long resident of Morris County, passed away at the Salina [KS] Regional Health Center on Thursday, February 28, 2013.

She was born November 15, 1923 in Council Grove, KS the first child of Jacob P. and Mary Jane Metcalf Morris. Mary Jane grew up in Council Grove and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1941. She attended Kansas State University for two years followed by a year of teaching at Garfield Elementary in Council Grove. She completed her undergraduate degree at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. After graduation she taught one year in Madison followed by one year in Strong City.

Mary Jane and William H. (Bill) Randle were married August 29, 1946 and lived and farmed in Diamond Springs until 1994.

Mary Jane continued her teaching career in Burdick where she also served as principal for one year. She enjoyed her many years of teaching at Wilsey High School. In 1963 she received her graduate degree in English from Kansas State Teachers College. She returned to teaching in Council Grove in 1967 where her teaching career began. Her teaching career spanned over 28 years touching the lives of hundreds of students.

After her retirement, Mary Jane and Bill enjoyed traveling and spending time on their farm with family and friends. In 1994 they moved to Council Grove. Sadly, Bill passed away on August 18, 1995. Always a voracious reader, she spent a great deal of time in the Council Grove Library. She remained a passionate observer of current affairs and politics. She was a brilliant and engaging conversationalist. She continued teaching her nieces and nephews by encouraging intellectual pursuits, reading and good conversation.

Mary Jane leaves behind a devoted family. Nieces: Billie Louise Feagans, of Lakewood, CO, Victoria West and her husband, Thomas, of Williamsburg, VA and Janice James and her husband, Tommie of Salina. She has six grandnieces: Heather Millard and her husband, E.J., of Pleasant Hill, MO, Elizabeth James, Jaimmie James and Katharine James, all of Salina, Pamela West of Williamsburg, VA, Brenda Stocker and her husband, James, of Lakewood, CO and nephew, Thomas Feagans, of Evergreen CO, as well as 10 great grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob P. and Mary Morris, husband, William H. Randle, sister, Margaret Ruth Davis, brother-in-law, Kenneth E. Davis, sister-in-law, Mae Gibson and brother-in-law, Homer Gibson.

A memorial service is planned on a date to be determined in the spring.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m.Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery for Mary Jame Morris Randle.
She passed away at the Salina Regional Health Center on February 28, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Friends of the Library.
