Mayola further states that both James and Catherine died soon after John was born, and he and sister Sarah Jane were in the household with their grandparents, Evan and Sarah Campbell in the 1860 Polk County Census. However, this info is incorrect, for James did not die, he remarried and he and his 2nd wife went to Missouri, and are buried there.
The Bible record says that this Sarah Jane Matlock died 12 May 1873 and as far as anyone knows she was never married - hence the inscription on the same marker with Mary Campbell, daughter of Evan and Sarah Campbell who died single at age 19.
Bio info from Marian Bailey Presswood, Polk County Historian.
