Mrs. Jenkins passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Clay County Hospital. Born January 2, 1913 to Rosie Yancey Crawford and James Wiley Crawford in Talladega, Mrs. Jenkins lived most of her life in Clay County. In 1957, she and her husband Alfred moved to Chicago, IL, where she began selling Avon products. Although she won many awards for her sales, she dedicated her life to her true passion, teaching others about Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Lillie and Alfred returned to Ashland in 1975 and she eventually went to work at the Deli on the square, where she sold her homemade biscuits and enjoyed visiting with the patrons. Mrs. Jenkins was a music lover, a published poet and a member of Bowden Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Helin Jenkins Turnipseed (Rod) of Dallas, TX; one granddaughter, Tami Turnipseed Cullen (James) of Dallas, TX; two great grandsons, Chris Cullen and Travis Cullen; two brothers, Roy Crawford (Nancy) of Cullman, Dickson Crawford (Grace) of Nashville, TN and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Alfred Preston Jenkins and her parents, James Wiley Crawford and Rosie Yancey Crawford and an infant son, Billy Bob Jenkins.
Pallbearers will be Tim Hill, David Knight, Wade Jenkins, Phillip Steed, Bobby Crawford, James Cullen, Chris Cullen and Travis Cullen. Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Jenkins, Bobby Watts, Mack Crawford, Grady Mulkey, Donnie Fowler, Tim Shelton, Michael Kleinmeyer, Daris Wolf, Jim McClellan, CD Mitchell, Bill Roberts and Floyd Hill.
