CLAREMONT, Calif. - Ethel M. Stivers, 98, of Claremont, Calif., formerly of Bettendorf, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Claremont Manor Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the chapel at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to Edwards United Church of Christ, 3420 Jersey Ridge Rd., Davenport, IA 52807, or Claremont United Church of Christ, 233 W. Harrison Ave., Claremont, CA 91711.

Ethel was born December 3, 1914, in Chicago, the only child of Carl and Anna Reavill Dunlap. She graduated from Lyons Township High School in La Grange, Ill., and the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, with a Bachelor of Science in Education where she was a member of Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Zeta sorority.

She married Ernest E. "Bud" Stivers in 1938 in Chicago. She was a former member of Edwards United Church of Christ, SLA Club, and P.E.O. Chapter JS, all of Davenport. She was later a member of Claremont United Church of Christ and P.E.O. Chapter MS of San Bernardino, Calif.

She was much loved by her daughter, Barbara Fryer, and husband, Don, grandson, Todd Fryer, and wife, Chris, granddaughter, Lisa Sanchez, and great-grandchildren, Anthony and Samantha Sanchez, all of Fontana, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Anna Dunlap, and her husband, Ernest "Bud" Stivers, in 1972.
