Philip Randall (Randy) Hughes died on March 1, 2013 in Salt Lake City. Philip was born on October 23, 1951 to Clifford and Helen S. Hughes and grew up in Farmington, Utah.

He graduated from Davis High School and attended the University of Utah on a Browning Scholarship, served an L.D.S. Mission in Los Angeles, and returned to graduate with a B.A. in Mining Engineering from the University of Utah.

Philip worked for Stearns-Rogers engineering Company in Denver, Colorado and also the Department of Interior as a Mining Venture Specialist. During that time, he spent a year in Australia. He later returned to Colorado to earn a Law Degree from Denver University in May, 1980 and became a member of the Colorado Bar Association on October 17, 1980.

After returning to Utah he became a member of the Utah Bar Association and was an active attorney at the time of his death.

He married Patricia Jane Droubay on July 23, 1987; their son, Jonathan Derek, was born on August 11, 1988.

Philip's steady and insightful judgment served him well in the legal profession, but he was also a first-rate gardener. Growing up on a farm, he loved the land, and as an adult, he sowed and reaped amazing vegetables and huge sunflowers. However, his greatest pride and love was for his son, Jonathan Derek. As Philip talked about Jonathan when he was growing up and as the fine man he became, Philip's face would light up and the joy in his son was a pleasure to see.

Philip's family and his friends will remember his love, and will miss the things that Philip so generously gave to us all. He is survived by his son, Jonathan, daughter-in-law Alexis, sisters Elaine and Elinore, brother Jonathan and loving nieces and nephew.

A gathering for family and friends will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday March 5, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main, Farmington.

Interment- Farmington City Cemetery.
