He was a native and lifelong resident of Salvo, husband of Mrs. Della Hooper Midgett, son of the late Pharrow and Martha Ann O'Neal Midgett; a member of Clark Bethel Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Buxton, and a retired Coast Guardsman, having served in World Wars I and II.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jerome Flora Midgett, Jr. of Crestfield, Md., two daughters, Mrs. Dalton Hooper of Waves and Mrs. Joe Gurich of Manteo; three brothers, Graves and Sparrow Midgett of Salvo and Warren Midgett of Buxton; one sister, Mrs. Martha Twiford of Elizabeth City; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Clark Bethel Methodist Church by the Rev. C.W. Gutherie, retired Methodist minister. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.

SALVO, N.C. - Jerome Flora Midgett, Sr., 78, Coast Guard veteran of World War I and II, died Thursday at 9:10 a.m. in his home.
A lifelong resident of Salvo, he was the husband of Mrs. Della Hooper Midgett and a son of Pharrow and Mrs. Martha Ann O'Neal Midgett. He was a member of Clark Bethel Methodist Church in Salvo, and Buxton Masonic Lodge.
Besides his widow, surviving are a son, Jerome Flora Midgett, Jr. of Crisfiield, Md.; two daughters, Mrs. Dalton Hooper of Waves and Mrs. Joe Gurich of Manteo; three brothers, Graves Midgett and Sparrow Midgett of Salvo and Warren Midgett of Buxton; a sister, Mrs. Martha Twiford of Elizabeth City; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to Twiford Funeral Home in Hatteras.
