Carole (Barnette) Fox passed away peacefully on Jan. 26 in New London, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Lenoir, N.C., and grew up there. She has resided in southeastern Connecticut for over 20 years but lived in many states and countries with her military family.
Carole graduated from nursing school in Georgia and worked in that field for many years. However, she devoted most of her life to taking care of her family. She was a cancer survivor and despite many personal struggles, she maintained a good sense of humor and continued to put others first. She was a loving person with a generous nature and a strong spirit.
Carole is survived by her husband, Wayne Carbone; daughter, Betsy (Fox) Hickey; grandchildren, Hailee and Jesse Hickey; mother, Alice Barnette; sisters, Libby Foster, Marie Woods, Shirley Hargus and Susan Setzer; and mother-in-law Rose Carbone. She is preceded in death by her father, John Barnette. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends around the world who loved her very much.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 31 from 5-7 p.m. at the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Funeral service and burial are private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carole's memory to the American Lupus Foundation. For online condolences, please go to www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com.
