Isaac Newton Stout, known by I.N. or Newt, was a prominent businessman with his father Francis Marion Stout. They operated the Stout Pottery and his initials are found on the functional pottery that was produced by the factory. The pottery is now highly collectible and is sometimes priced in the range of $300 to $800 if it can be found.

Newt and his father Francis Marion also operated the F.N. & F.M. Mercantile Store located on the West side of Ripley Square in Ripley. Newt was one of the first owners of a 'horseless carriage' in Brown County as attested to in articles found in the Democrat-Message newspaper published in Mt. Sterling.
