Son of Thomas Hampton and Susannah Harrington.
Married Martha Mariah Hodge in 1820 in Butler county, Kentucky. They came to Texas via Missouri ca 1840. They were the parents of eleven (11) children.

Charles H. Hampton and his family left Butler county, Kentucky some time after the 1830 census was taken and had migrated to Missouri by November 1832. They moved on to Texas, arriving in Fannin county in December 1839. At the meeting of the Board of Land Commissioners held in the town of Warren on January 2, 1840, a Second Class Land Grant (#134) for 640 acres was granted to Charles Hampton. For a time the family lived south of Randolph in Fannin county, then moved over into Collin county where they were enumerated in the 1850 census. Their farm was near the present towns of Desert and Westminister in the Mt. Carmel community.
